Carpet Stain Removal: How to Get Rid of 4 Common Stains

Let’s face it, stains are inevitable.

No matter how careful you are, stains will find their way; it’s a part of our lives, isn’t it?

The main thing to remember is that the longer you leave a stain, the more embedded it will get into the fibres. A stain that has been left for a long time will become harder to remove and may even become permanent.

To give you the best success of becoming a stain removal pro, we have compiled a list of 4 common stains and the cleaning method for each one.

If you read it till the end, you will also find a guide to remove almost every type of stain - both the common and the uncommon ones.

4 Common Carpet Stains and How to Remove Them

1.  Red Wine Stains

Sipping on a good red wine paired with a lovely aged cheese is a great way to relax and unwind - whether it’s a glass of Shiraz or a smooth Pinot Noir.

But red wine can leave you with stubborn stains if you spill it. Red wine spills are likely to occur from time to time, especially when you have guests around and things begin to get a bit easygoing and tipsy.

HOW TO REMOVE RED WINE STAINS FROM A CARPET?

Act quickly and soak up as much red wine as you can using paper towels. Place the paper towel on top of the spill and let the liquid absorb up into the paper towel. Replace the paper towel with a fresh one and continue to soak up as much liquid as possible by gently placing a hand on top and applying light pressure.

Don't rub the stain or pour water directly onto the area as this can make the stain worse.

Now, there are a lot of home remedy methods out there on the internet, but some of them can actually end up making your stain worse than it was in the first place, or even set the stain permanently on your lovely carpet.

The trick is to make sure you have the right products in the cupboard and on hand ready to use. The Rug Doctor Spot Remover will do the job quickly and easily, and you can get this from your local supermarket.

2.  Coffee Stains

Oh, coffee stains - they always happen at the wrong time: when you just want to enjoy a hot cup of coffee while reading a book, after a dinner party or while you’re binge-watching your favourite Netflix series.

Don’t worry, almost everyone has their own coffee-spilling story, so you're not alone.

Again, first you need to soak up as much of the liquid spill as possible, using paper towels.

Now, did your coffee have milk in or was it a black coffee? Interestingly, black coffee can be a more stubborn stain to remove than a coffee stain that contained milk. Also, the PH balance of the stain is different, so this means there are two products available for coffee stains.

Coffee with milk - Use the Rug Doctor Spot Remover

Black coffee - Use the Rug Doctor Stain Remover. Remembering that with black coffee being the more stubborn stain of the two, you may need to treat the stain a second time.

You can find these two products at your local supermarket or hardware store.

3.  Make-up Stains

It’s not uncommon to spill foundation, drop your lipstick, or tip powdered eye shadow on your plush carpet when you’re in a hurry to get out the door to a party.

Now, you have two options: attend to the spill or be where the party’s at!

Although you want to rock the party as soon as you can, it’s highly recommended that you get rid of the excess mess first.

HOW TO REMOVE MAKEUP STAINS?

Using a butter knife, carefully scrape as much of the excess makeup off the carpet as possible. Be careful to not smear the makeup, working from the edges towards the centre of the spill.

Then once you have cleaned up as much of the excess mess as possible, grab your secret weapon! ...what's that you might ask?

It's simple, for any type of makeup stain you can use the Rug Doctor Spot Remover. It’s easily available in your local supermarket or hardware store. Having the right products on hand for the job will make the panic of a stain happening into no worry at all!

4.  Dirt/Mud/Clay Stains

Do you walk on your carpet with your shoes on? If so, then there’s a high chance of getting dirt stains on your beautiful carpet.

First of all, these can be easily avoided if you adopt a proactive approach to keeping your house clean. You can prevent mud/clay stains by not wearing shoes in your house in the first place. But, by the time you are reading this it might already be too late... so, if you do end up with mud stains, don’t worry! Let’s talk about how to get rid of them.
