4 Fun Indoor Art & Craft Activities For Kids

It's all too easy to use technology to entertain the kids, but nothing quite brings the magic as much as arts and crafts.

Here are the 4 indoor art & craft activities for kids that you might want to try this weekend.

1.  Leaf printing

What you need:

  • Acrylic colour or water colour
  • White blank canvas
  • Leaves - any leaf smaller than the canvas
  • Paint brush
  • Water
  • Paint palette
  • Rags or paper towels

Method:

Pluck some fresh green leaves from your backyard. Then use a paint brush to apply colour on the leaf.

Make sure that the leaves are fresh and stiff before you apply colour. If they go all soft and mushy, pluck new ones.

After you have applied your desired colour on the leaf, stick it to the canvas, press it with a rag and gently peel it back.

Repeat the process again with other leaves. Let your kids be creative with this - they'll create a stunning design.

This is so easy, kids of any age can do it because all the hard work is already done by mother nature.

2.  Spray painting

What you need:

  • Old toothbrush
  • Sketch book or blank canvas
  • Stencil
  • Acrylic colours
  • Paint brush
  • Palette
  • Water
  • Rags or paper towels

Method:

Place the stencil over the blank canvas (or sketch book page).

Then, mix 2 parts water with 1 part acrylic colour of your choice and dip the bristle side of the tooth brush in the mixture.

Hold the tooth brush facing downwards toward your paper and using your thumb, move it over the bristles to make the paint flick onto the paper.

Bingo! Now you can use your toothbrush as a paint spray.

Spray generously over the stencil then take it off to behold the beauty.

Experiment with different colours for different areas of the stencil as shown in the picture.

3.  Collage

What you need:

  • Coloured papers
  • Rigid blank paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencils
  • Eraser
  • Glue stick
  • A bunch of creative kids

Method:

Using a pencil draw the designs you want to cut out on the coloured papers of your choice; for example, circles, triangles, fish, clouds etc.

Once you're satisfied with the design, carefully cut it out of the coloured paper.

Now, place the cutouts on the blank paper to check if the final design looks sweet - just like it's shown in the above picture.

Then, it's time to bring the glue stick in on the action. Stick on the cutouts and don't forget to tell your kids how wonderful it looks!

Collages are fun to create in a team. If you were thinking about a group-bonding activity for your kids and their friends, look no further.

4.  DIY Berry Baskets

What you need:

  • Empty egg cartons
  • Acrylic colours
  • Decorative strings
  • Palette
  • Paint brush
  • Water
  • Rags or paper towels

Method:

Mix paint colours of your choice with the desired amount of water in a palette and apply them on the empty egg cartons. Let the kids have fun with the paint brush.

Alternatively, you can also go for leaf prints, spray painting or collages, using the same methods mentioned above.

Once the colours dry, poke holes at the opposite ends of the carton to insert the decorative strings, which will be used as a handle to carry those cute little berries.

Remember, you can also flaunt your homemade egg baskets on Easter. That's right, they don't always need to be 'berry' baskets.

But before you begin...

Make sure you have the right cleaning products handy, because kids and colours equal stains - lots of stains.
