How to Clean Kids’ Bath Toys

Bath toys can be great fun, however they can be a gateway to bacteria which if unchecked can result in sickness. As a parent it’s vital to be able to prevent all this by regularly cleaning bath toys. Consider the following:

1. Wipe toys dropped on the ground

As a rule of thumb, it’s important to clean all toys that fall on the ground. It’s a relatively straightforward process; you can achieve this using baby wipes or taking a piece of cloth, dipping it in water and wiping off any dirt, grease or grime on the toy.

2. Sanitize toys that go into the mouth

Babies and toddlers eat most of their toys; it's common practice especially if they are in the teething process.  Clean such toys by dipping them in boiling water. Place some water to boil for ten minutes. Immerse the toy into the water for several minutes before letting it cool off to a temperature that doesn't hurt your child. Also, consider toys which can get destroyed by immersing in boiling water, such will need to be cleaned by using liquid dish wash soap. Ensure that you rinse well before placing it in the hands of your child.

3. Use a sponge for plastic toys

Food remnants get stuck on the surface of toys, to remove soak the sponge in some warm water, then gently wipe the toy clean. Ensure that every inch of the surface is thoroughly clean and dried, as a safe measure against moulds and bacteria that readily thrive in a damp environment. After ensuring that the toy is dry hand it is ready for further play.

4. Mix vinegar and water to clean toys

A mixture of vinegar and water in equal parts is a great way of cleaning toys. Get the mixture in a spray bottle then spray dirty toys at intervals of 15 minutes, the time intervals allows the acid in vinegar to disintegrate any germs that may be on the surface of the toys.

5. Drain all bath water from toys

Most bath toys have a small hole that ensures they produce that squirting noise. In most cases it's filled with the residual bath water. As a parent, you can rid the toy of the water after each bath. On a regular basis mix baking soda and water in a container and use this solution to clean inside the toys. Such action ensures that mould doesn’t grow inside.
